Sashiko is a form of Japanese folk embroidery using a running stitch to create a patterned background. Geometric patterns marked on fabric are stitched with white cotton thread, traditionally on an indigo blue fabric. As Sashiko increased in popularity, other fabric colours and threads are used to stitch the intricate designs.
Traditional designs included geometric shapes with straight or curved lines of stitching arranged in different arrangements, and includes different Japanese figures such as Noshi and Geisha Girls.
