Sashiko Cloth “Kaza Garuma” features designs enclosed a range of different shapes including fans, squares and hexagons.
“Kaza-Garuma” is a simple project suitable for Beginner to more experienced quilter, and completed panels can be utilised for different projects such as cushion covers, table runners and placemats or combined to make a quilt.
Sashiko is a form of Japanese folk embroidery using a running stitch to create a patterned background. Geometric patterns marked on fabric are stitched with white cotton thread, traditionally on an indigo blue fabric. As Sashiko increased in popularity, other fabric colours and threads are used to stitch the intricate designs.
Traditional designs included geometric shapes with straight or curved lines of stitching arranged in different arrangements, and includes different Japanese figures such as Noshi and Geisha Girls.
